In waste selection and recovery facilities, materials analysis is a tool able to detect new recovery possibilities for materials and to improve operational performance.
Technological evolution today makes it possible to transform this process, surpassing the limits of traditional manual sampling.
Greyparrot, with systems of artificial intelligence and optical vision automization, has made it possible to gather continuous and representative data on waste flows in transit and to sort waste, exploiting secondary raw materials and paving the way to more efficient and accurate industrial processes.
In 2020, using the CVC programme, A2A Life Ventures decided to invest in Greyparrot, the first start-up to enter its portfolio. Greyparrot has developed an AI platform for computer vision able to digitalise monitoring processes on flow lines.
The technology, trialled on the PET lines at the Muggiano facility, is able to carry out real-time analysis of material composition.
The integration of this AI platform with the Waste Analytics system, evolved with the introduction of a robotic cell developed by Waste Robotics and designed for the automatic selection of plastic, led to the installation of four robotic arms each able to perform as many as 60 pick-ups per minute with a Venturi pick-up system designed to handle the deformation and overlapping of materials.
